What are Educational and Instructional Technology?

Starfish covering over a rock

Educational Technology is the identification, planning and application of processes which create a purposeful structure using available resources of media and computer networks. When used with instruction it is referred to as Instructional Technology.

The navigation bar on the left side is considered the EdTech navbar for the purposes of this site.  The subjects on the EdTech navbar relate to the "why" in educational technology and instructional development.  When searching for assistance in the functional application of the integration of technology check out the EdTech navbar first.

What is Instructional Systems Development?

Instructional systems development (ISD) is a data-driven, systematic approach to examine instructional problems and develop detailed specifications using an organized process to gather and analyze needs, set procedures and goals and constantly reevaluate the results to see if it worked. It is an iterative process that requires ongoing evaluation and feedback.  The format for ISD is the ADDIE model. This is the model utilized throughout the ETEC curriculum. ADDIE is a methodical process that breaks the instructional development tasks into five components.

The navigation bar on top is considered the ISD navbar for the purposes of this site.  The subjects on the ISD navbar relate to the "how" in educational technology and instructional development or. ADDIE.  ADDIE stands for, analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate.  When searching for assistance in the use of ADDIE, begin with the ISD navbar.
