  Professional Organizations, Publications, Agencies, Libraries and Other Resources

+ Associations.  There are many professional organizations that are dedicated to educational/instructional technology and professionals.

Professional Organizations

bullet marker for Texas link.  Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA).  TCEA was founded in 1980 and is the largest state organization devoted to the use of technology in education.

bullet marker for link.   American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).   ASTD promotes workplace learning and performance professionals. This organization began in 1944 and claims to be the largest of its type.

bullet marker for link.   Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE).   AACE was founded in 1981 and is dedicated to help educators integrate technology into their teaching by encouraging inquiry and dissemination of research.

bullet marker for link.   American Educational Research Association (AERA).   AERA began in 1916 and is the most prominent international professional organization with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application.

bullet marker for link.   Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) .    AECT's mission is to provide leadership in educational communications and technology by linking professionals holding a common interest in the use of educational technology and its application to the learning process.

bullet marker for link.  International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).   ISTE is the largest teacher-based, nonprofit organization in the field of educational technology.

bullet marker for link.  International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).   ISPI was founded in 1962 and is dedicated to help organizations improve productivity and performance in the workplace.

bullet marker for link.   Society for Applied Learning Technology (SALT).   SALT is for professionals in instructional technology.  This organization attempts to group members according to the interest and experiences of the individuals.

bullet marker for link.   Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) .   SITE is the only organization that only focuses on the integration of instructional technologies into teacher education programs.

bullet marker for Texas link.  Texas Association for Educational Technology (TAET) .   The mission of TAET is to help improve instruction through educational technology by disseminating information and working with other educational technology organizations.

bullet marker for link.  The eLearning Guild.  The eLearning Guild provides learning opportunities, networking services, resources, and publications for professionals with interests in e-Learning design, development, and management.    Membership is world wide and members are instructional designers, content developers, web developers, project managers, contractors, consultants and managers who work in corporate, government, and academic organizations.  TOP

bullet marker for link.  The American Journal of Distance Education (AJDE).   This journal provides research-based knowledge about all aspects of the pedagogy of the field of distance education.

bullet marker for link.  International Journal of Human-Computer Studies/Knowledge Acquisition (IJHCS).  IJHCS is a scholarly journal published monthly by American Press.  This journal covers topics from the computer to the person.

bullet marker for link.   U. S. Department of Education.   This government organization was created in 1980 and is the organization responsible for overseeing education in America.   Their mission is to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation.

bullet marker for Texas link.   Texas Education Agency.   This agency of the Texas state government responsible for overseeing education in Texas. Their mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students in Texas.

bullet marker for Texas link.   The Charles A. Dana Center.   This organization is a part of the University of Texas at Austin and provides Texas education leaders with new knowledge about teaching and learning.

bullet marker for Texas link.   Star Center: Support for Texas Academic Renewal.   The Star Center is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.   The Texas Star Center provides support and technical assistance services to the Texas Education Agency, regional service centers, and local Texas school districts.

bullet marker for link.  ERIC Database - The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education, produces the world's premier database of journal and non-journal education literature.

bullet marker for link.  The World Almanac of Educational Technologies.   This is a new e-book being developed at the University of Georgia focused on the technology integration efforts around the world. The book is divided into countries and regions, each containing 1) an overview of technology integration and educational policies, and 2) a case study providing in-depth analysis of the relationship between technological tools and education.
